There are countless different weapons in Valheim, and finding the right one for your own game can seem a little difficult. However, one of the best ways to ensure you’re prepared for anything the game might throw at you is to ensure your arsenal of weapons is comprehensive - and adding in ranged weapons is crucial to this end. Fortunately, today, we’re looking at how to craft every bow in the game to help you learn how to craft a bow in Valheim and even looking at what the best bow in the game is.
Before we go further wit looking at the different bows in the game, we should briefly note how to craft a bow in Valheim. The exact type of workstation you’ll need will depend on the specific bow you’re making.
A basic level bow will usually be made at a generic workbench (Level 1 or Level 2), which opens up shortly after starting your new game. So, right after you create Valheim server with ScalaCube to share with your friends, make sure to begin picking up basic bow-making materials. However, some higher-level bows may be made in the forge or even the Black Forge, so not all are available right at the outset.
Now we’ve considered how to craft a bow in Valheim, it’s time to look at the range of bow crafting recipes included in the game. At the time of writing, there are a total of six different types of bows, which include the following varieties.
Weapon Name | Ingredients | Base Pierce Damage | Bonus Damage | Backstab Bonus | Knockback |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Crude Bow | X10 Wood / X8 Leather Scraps | 22 | N/A | 3x | 0 |
Finewood Bow | X10 Fine Wood / X10 Core Wood / X2 Deer Hide | 32 | N/A | 3x | 0 |
Huntsman Bow | X10 Fine Wood / X20 Iron / X10 Feathers / X2 Deer Hide | 42 | N/A | 3x | 10 |
Draugr Fang | X10 Ancient Bark / X20 Silver / X10 Guck / X2 Deer Hide | 47 | 5 Poison | 3x | 20 |
SpineSnap | X10 Fine Wood / X40 Bone Fragments / X10 Refined Eitr | 72 | 5 Spirit | 3x | 25 |
Ash Fang | X10 Ashwood / X16 Charred Bones / X5 Flametal / X5 Bonemaw Teeth | 82 | 0+ Spirit | 3x | 25 |
The above provides a brief overview of all the different bows in Valheim. Still, it’s worth noting that the upcoming Deep North update may introduce further bow options still. In addition, just because the Ash Fang deals the most base damage doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best weapon to use against a particular class of foe. Be sure to consider your enemies’ strengths and weaknesses to decide on the opportune strategy.
Yes! Since bows are ranged weapons, they are an excellent choice of weapon in Valheim, thanks to their ability to deal damage without having to get into close-quarters combat. Plus, many Valheim bows also offer unique properties and damage types, thus increasing the amount of damage they can potentially do.
In Valheim, the best bow is the Ash Fang, which deals a massive 82+ piercing damage and up to 15 spirit damage. However, the SpineSnap bow is in close second place, dealing up to 84 piercing damage and 20 spirit damage.
Yes. Bows are excellent ranged weapons. However, you will need to craft plenty of arrows to use with the bow; otherwise, you will (unsurprisingly) not be able to shoot any enemies with it. The arrow’s damage is added to the base damage of your bow, potentially causing the combination to deal a lethal amount of damage.
The best arrow to use with bows in Valheim is the charred arrow, which deals 82 piercing damage. However, the carapace arrow, the frost arrow, and the silver arrow all also deal around 70-75 damage when combining their different damage types, making them also lethal weapons.
All bows in Valheim have the potential to be inaccurate. However, the later grade models - namely the Huntsman bow, Draugr Fang, SpineSnap, and Ash Fang have marginally better spread than the crude bow and finewood bow, making this worth keeping in mind.
Bows are an incredibly powerful choice of weapon, and their ranged nature makes them even more versatile and useful for a wide array of situations. As such, while there’s always room to keep a close-combat weapon in your gear, having a powerful Valheim bow to use gives you another option to take down enemies before they get too close - giving your character more chance of staying safe from potentially aggressive foes. After all, if there’s one thing Valheim’s not lacking in, it’s enemies that are always ready for a fight!
