The ability to raise the dead. It’s an ability that often sends a shiver down a person’s spine, and as a result, it’s something that even the most non-superstitious people would spare a second glance to in the dark of the night. However, for players of Valheim, raising the dead isn’t just a superstition; it’s a very real skill that was introduced in the Mistlands update with the Dead Raiser magic weapon. But what is the Valheim Dead Raiser, and how can you use the Dead Raiser magic weapon in the game? Well, we’re looking at this key question to help you understand how to use this valuable magic type for your own game.
First things first, it’s important to consider what the Valheim Dead Raiser actually is. At its simplest, the Dead Raiser is a unique type of blood magic weapon that was introduced during the Mistlands Update. The weapon allows the caster to summon a tamed skeleton, known as a Skellett, which is capable of fighting on behalf of the caster.
This might not sound so impressive in itself; however, the Skellett that is summoned is vastly stronger than regular skeletons, even when compared to two-star skeletons. Given this, the Skellett is clearly able to do a huge amount of damage and is a valuable ally to have in your party. Of course, though, this isn’t the only way to expand your party, and playing the game alongside friends offers another such option; this is where ScalaCube’s premium Valheim server hosting comes into play, allowing you to set up a private server with exceptional 24/7 uptime, support for multiple players joining the server at once, full DDoS protection, access to your server’s settings, and so much more.
As we’ve briefly mentioned, the Dead Raiser is a handy magical weapon that serves to summon an undead ally to fight by your side - but how does this actually work? Well, as a blood magic spell, using the Dead Raiser weapon isn’t quite as straightforward as using regular weapons in the game. After all, the in-game description quite literally points out that you’ll have to “sacrifice a bit of blood to raise the dead.” So, what does this really mean? Well, there are two core requirements to use the Dead Raiser successfully. First of all, you’ll expend up to 100 Eitr to cast the spell, which certainly isn’t a small amount. Furthermore, you’ll also lose up to 40% of your current health, which ties in with the concept of sacrificing your own blood. Ouch!
So, this begs the question: if you have to sacrifice so much of your own health and Eitr to summon a Skellett, does your new-found ally actually do enough to make this a worthwhile trade-off? Well, this largely depends on your blood magic skill level, as each level of blood magic skill increases the damage from your Skelletts by 2%, up to a massive maximum of +200% damage at blood magic level 100.
With the core features of the Dead Raiser in mind, and given its potential to do a great deal of damage, you may now be wondering: how do you craft a Dead Raiser in Valheim? Fortunately, the Dead Raiser isn’t too difficult to make, being built at a Galdr table.
In order to make a Dead Raiser, you’ll need ten bone fragments, sixteen refined Eitrs, and four skeleton trophies. Thereafter, the bone raiser can be levelled up with five bone fragments, eight refined Eitr, and two skeleton trophies for Level 2; ten bone fragments, sixteen refined Eitr, and four skeleton trophies for Level 3; and fifteen bone fragments, twenty four refined Eitr, and six skeleton trophies for Level 4.
Upgrading the Dead Raiser in Valheim allows you to summon more Skelletts in a single summons. The number of Skelletts you can control will depend on the level of your Dead Raiser, with each level up adding one to the number of Skelletts.
No. Skelletts might be based on skeletons, but they won’t attack the player or any other friendly entities. Skelletts will only attack creatures that are hostile towards their summoner.
Skelletts have two attacks: a melee sword attack and a ranged archer attack, depending on the weapon that the Skellett spawns in with.
If you’ve already summoned the maximum number of Skelletts for your Dead Raiser level (e.g., one at Level One), the oldest Skelletts will die and be replaced by a new one. This allows you to quickly replace a damaged Skellett (or spawn one that better matches the environment’s needs).
If you’ve been looking to make your combat in Valheim a little more supernatural and deadly, why not consider crafting the Dead Raiser and harnessing the spooky power of Blood Magic? Indeed, this powerful magic weapon is definitely a useful tool for those looking to take advantage of magic in the game - but just keep in mind before casting it that, as a blood magic weapon, you’ll need to sacrifice up to 40% of your own current health to make the spell work.
