How to Obliterate in Risk of Rain 2
Risk of Rain 2 is a game that allows you to face off with enemies, defeat them, unlock characters, and earn game tokens for upgrades. The ultimate goal is to beat a boss at the end of each level. However, there is another type of goal that seems to be a more serious option for players: Obliteration.
While there are several ways to end a run in Risk of Rain 2, obliterating your character from existence is an option that most players would consider. Although it is unclear why this is a favorable outcome, the game has made it a viable one.
Even though the process is very simple, most players often find it hard to Obliterate. Yet, it is the best way to unlock certain characters, upgrade certain weapons, and win some challenges.
So, how do you aim for Obliteration? Let's find out.
How to Obliterate in Risk of Rain 2
There are a couple of ways to win a run in Risk of Rain 2. Apart from the obvious one being to beat the final boss of the game, players also have the option to obliterate themselves from existence. It's not clear as to why this is a favorable outcome, but if the game says it is, then so be it.
Obliterating yourself is a simple and straightforward process, albeit one that's not entirely explained before players go on another run. If you're trying to unlock new abilities for the best characters in ROR 2, then you'll need to aim for obliteration. Here's how to do it.
Method One
The first method for performing Obliteration is to use the Primordial Teleporter to loop. After which you will enter the Celestial Portal in the third stage. Looping is very simple to achieve if you don't know how to do it beforehand. All you have to do is interact with some of the spires found around Primordial Teleporter in the Sky Meadows or Helminth Hatchery. This will cause the spires to readjust their alignment and a message will pop up to tell you the portal has been aligned to the planet. You then have to finish the Teleporter Event to loop back to a random stage 1 map.
Once you have started this, you have to go through teleporters three times, repeating the same actions each time. As soon as you start the level again, a message will appear, telling you that a Celestial Portal has opened. Finish the Teleporter Event and enter this Celestial Portal where you will find a place called A Moment, Fractured. All you need to do now is get to a giant obelisk right at the bottom of the map and interact with it. This will obliterate your character and unlock another character where possible.
When this happens, an event known as True Respite is completed and the game is basically over as the planet has destroyed your character. However, something else can happen.
Method Two
If you have the Beads of Fealty Lunar item in your inventory, the obliteration may not outrightly happen. Rather than that, you get transported to a place called A Moment, Whole. Here, you can choose to fight the boss or not. But you have to fight one of the four Twisted Scavengers instead. These enemies are very powerful and they have lots of items to aid them. They are not easy to defeat but if you do succeed, you'll get an item called a Scavenger’s Sack which contains 10 Lunar Coins. Here's the twist that comes with this reward: you can't get it even if you eventually win the game! So, that's a huge reward for completing such a tedious task. If you're interested in earning Lunar coins, it's advisable to keep repeating this process until you have enough.
As expected, your run will end and your character will get obliterated after this. It's simply the same ending but with a juicy reward and extra adventure.
Secondly, having a character like Void Fiend in Risk of Rain 2 makes it easier to get to the obelisk located in A Moment, Fractured. Why? It's because the character has a special mobility skill. And if you can't make the necessary jump, you can float down the area by using one of the platforms around.
Method Three
Another way to perform Obliteration in Risk of Rain 2 is to own the Seekers of the Storm DLC which you can get after you defeat the False Son boss and offer an item at the Shrine of Rebirth. In the game, this is recorded as an Obliteration victory. Additionally, any item sacrificed at the Shrine will automatically be available for use on the next run if you choose to start with the Artifact of Rebirth. If you're lucky enough to beat the boss with a Halcyon Seed available in your inventory, you can use the False Son boss as a character in Risk of Rain 2.
If you've never encountered the False Son boss before, here's how to defeat it. You need to locate and activate any Halcyon Shrine and enter the green portal that will appear afterwards. In the next few maps, the green portal will appear after every Teleporter Event and you have to go through each of them until you reach the Prime Meridian. There, you will find the False Son boss waiting for you at the top.
