How To Beat Risk of Rain 2
Risk of Rain 1.0 ended properly, according to a series of reviews by gamers worldwide. But with Risk of Rain 2, there's a whole new level to the ending. Instead of ending a run whenever you get bored, the new version gives you the opportunity to face off with a final boss and watch the end-game scenes. But that's not the only way to end Risk of Rain 2.
The game gives you two official options at the end. One, you defeat the final boss called Mithrix on the Moon of Petrichor V. Two, you obliterate yourself at a place where you can find an Obelisk. Both endings have different conclusions but the game's official ending occurs when you beat Mithrix and escape on a pre-planned drop shop.
This review will show you how to achieve both endings and as a bonus, offer you a third option that's not very common.
How To Beat Risk of Rain 2 (Officially)
Defeat the Final Boss Mithrix
Officially, the most preferred way to beat Risk of Rain 2 is to defeat the final boss called Mithrix, the King of Nothing. While this boss was not in the first version of the game, his inclusion in the latest version made him an apex opponent.
To reach Mithrix, you must first find a Primordial Teleporter. The first time you'll see this is in Sky Meadow on Stage 5. These portals look like normal teleporters but with two horn-like shapes with a ring of angular protrusions.
After activating the Primordial Teleporter, you have to complete a challenge called the Teleporter Event. Completing this will take you to the Moon of Petrichor V. The area is also known as Commencement and it contains powerful enemies called Lunar Chimera.
While this area is rather unique, it is literally a barren wasteland. There are no treasures here except Item Cauldrons which are just like those you must have seen in the Bazaar Between Time. The downside to choosing any of these items is that it randomly takes away five other items from your inventory. Except, of course, you have an Item Scrap from a Scrap Machine.
After fighting your way through the Lunar Chimera, you'll discover a large circular arena with a dark portal right in the middle. This is where Mithrix will spawn from and thus, your fight begins. You have to defeat him in a fight of four rounds after which you will have a few minutes to leave the entire area.
Should you fail to reach the ship on time, your character dies and the game is over. But if you reach the shop before the timer stops, the end scenes and credits will start rolling. And just like that, you have beaten Risk of Rain 2!
Obliterate Yourself at the Obelisk
In the first version of Risk of Rain, the only way to end the game was to get to the obelisk and perform something called Obliteration. Risk of Rain 2 still retains this ending but with a unique twist. Instead of beating the game, you get a message from a black screen which tells you that your gate remains unknown. So, how do you get to this ending?
First, you'll have to find a Celestial Portal. These portals will appear on the third Stage after your first loop. That is, you'll find them in Stage 8, Stage 13, Stage 18, and so on in multiples of five. Once you get to the end of any of these stages, you have to complete the Teleporter Event and step into the Celestial Portal when it pops up.
You'll find yourself in a place called A Moment, Fractured after getting out on the other side. A few feet away from you, there'll be an Obelisk waiting. You have to jump down a series of floating rocks that will emerge once you approach them. Upon reaching the Obelisk, interact with it twice to obliterate your character. This will end your run and take you back to the main menu.
On the other hand, there's another way to achieve Obliteration. But to do that, you need an item called the Beads I'd Fealty. Once you have this item in your inventory, it will take you to a place called A Moment, Whole after interacting with the Obelisk.
Just like Commencement, this is also a wasteland. But here, there is a secret boss called a Twisted Scavenger. He's one of four of such characters made available in the game. With a massive amount of health, this enemy also possesses 30 different items to battle with.
As expected, he is a very tough boss to beat but when you do defeat him, you get rewarded with a Scavenger's Sack which contains ten Lunar Coins. Now, this style doesn't have the normal game ending you'd expect but it rewards you for your effort.
How to Beat Risk of Rain 2 (Unofficial)
Just like with many other games, some players have discovered a secret way to end Risk of Rain 2 without following the official rules. This doesn't actually require you to fight bosses or complete challenges. Rather, it's like crashing the game.
The idea behind this is to create as much chaos as you can. When fighting enemies, you have to build items that will destroy enemies at once, throw a lot of explosives, or just keep making moves that the game's algorithm may not be able to keep up with. It may sound like crap but it actually works.
And while this ending has been found to be very exciting for some gamers, the best way to beat Risk of Rain 2 is to just try to defeat Mithrix.
