Minecraft has released an update for the Bedrock Edition of the game that includes several improvements and changes, such as fixing multiple crashes and improving horse breeding. There are also experimental features included in the update for the upcoming 1.20 update, such as Archaeology and the Sniffer mob. Vanilla parity has also been improved to align Bedrock Edition with Java Edition.
One of the significant changes made in this update is the improvement to the emote system in Bedrock Edition, with several new features such as quick emoting and improved sorting of emotes. The update also includes fixes for over 30 community-reported issues, including stability and performance improvements, gameplay, and user interface improvements.
The experimental features included in the update for the upcoming 1.20 update are Archaeology and the Sniffer mob. The Sniffer is the first extinct mob brought to life and added to the game and is a passive friendly mob that sniffs in the air and digs for seeds. The Archaeology feature includes new items such as the Brush and Pottery Shards, which players can use to create Decorated Pots with pictures on each side.
ARK: Survival Evolved
Studio Wildcard has introduced a new monster bug called Rhyniognatha in the game ARK: Survival Evolved. This omnivore insect from the Early Devonian period has a range of defensive capabilities, including spraying hard bullet-like globs and shooting soft globs that harden on impact to gum up predators. Players can also use the creature to level up their tribe's aerial defenses.
ARK: Survival Evolved's Community Creature Vote is still accepting submissions until April 21st. Meanwhile, the Easter EVO Event, which replaces 25% of spawns with colors from the event list, will end on April 24th. Conquest servers are being re-introduced, and the current Classic PvP season will end and servers will be wiped before the new Conquest season begins on April 25th.
The crafting team at Project Zomboid has been working hard on RamblZ, their upcoming crafting overhaul. While they're not ready to reveal any substantial changes just yet, they've shared some insights into their design goals and challenges. One of their biggest inspirations for RamblZ is the extensive tech progression modpacks in Minecraft, which offer players a wealth of creative and community experiences. However, Zomboid being a post-apocalyptic survival game, they must balance extensive crafting possibilities with realism and plausibility.
One design challenge they're currently addressing is finding the right balance between extensive and interesting crafting of items, without crossing the line into tedious or frustrating gameplay. They're also exploring new ways for players to level up skills, including learning recipes for items and gaining skill experience by observing other players craft them. RamblZ will provide a framework for players to create everything they need without relying on looting, allowing for a long post-apocalyptic settlement. However, the crafting possibilities will be intelligently gated to avoid immersion-breaking crafting recipes, and presented to the player in a natural way.
Patch 0.215.2 was released on April 12, 2023, containing several Xbox fixes and improvements, such as allowing backups to be restored multiple times, displaying world saves with missing files in the Manage Saves menu, and fixing bugs related to cloud saves and file operations. The minimap now correctly displays player and ship markers above map pins, and lighting effects were reduced for certain settings. The console version also improved stability and performance for world saving, and corrupted save files in cloud storage are now detected and cannot be started as empty worlds.
