In a rare update on The Elder Scrolls 6, Todd Howard explains the new game's ambition to define RPGs and the open world for the current gen. While Howard steers clear of new information or game art, he assures the fanbase that they can still expect immersion to remain a focus for Bethesda.
Speaking in a recent interview, Howard said The Elder Scrolls 6 would be a "decade game", a game that would have an environmental longevity comparable to the continuing success of Skyrim. "How do you make a game where you go into it, like, 'people have to play it for a decade? He acknowledged that.
The Creation Engine 2 is the engine that The Elder Scrolls 6 has onboard, and Starfield is using that as well. This engine upgrade will make the game more interactive, will make NPC interactions (including AI) better, and will fix the issues people felt were missing from Skyrim.
However, speculation has been that the online multiplayer game, The Elder Scrolls 6, will be released on next-gen consoles only, sometime as late as 2028. Howard hinted at this timeline, telling fans, "People can do the math with what our schedules look like," and acknowledged the amount of time needed to develop such a sprawling undertaking.
Details are still sparse, yet Howard's announcements confirm Bethesda's intent to deliver an unparalleled RPG experience. However, as with all good things, fans will have to be patient as the studio works to bring this vision to life.
