Jagex just unveiled RuneScape: Dragonwilds as an open-world survival game that establishes its storyline within the RuneScape universe. The game is built in Unreal Engine 5 and will be released as an Early Access title on Steam in Spring 2025.
The gameplay takes place in Ashenfall, which represents Gielinor's uncharted territory, where dragons have started to emerge again. Players can enjoy RuneScape: Dragonwilds either by themselves or in coop mode with up to four players. The survival features of the game require players to collect resources, build shelters, create items through crafting and fight creatures ranging from goblins to dragons.
The ultimate goal in this upcoming game is to defeat the Dragon Queen, a leader in the dragon resurgence. The progression system is used in the game where the player will use it to unlock new spells, craft recipes and survival techniques.
Before that, Jagex was already including the community in the development process by having some players conduct closed alpha tests. In the process, Early Access will also provide more feedback to help refine the experience. The developers will play the game and respond to the questions on a Twitch livestream on April 15, 2025 at 17:00 BST. RuneScape: Dragonwilds blends classic game features with fresh survival-based elements, bringing it to veteran and new players.
The developers intend to release Early Access during spring 2025.
