Runescape Dragonwilds early access was launched on 15th April 2025. This was a surprise launch to fans, as most of the community assumed it would be arriving later in the year. The game's release didn't come without backlash, unfortunately. The creators' previous games, both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, are widely known as free-to-play games, with optional subscriptions and paid extras. Whereas RuneScape dragonwilds came at a $29.99 Now, $30 doesn't seem like a lot for a popular title, and for lots of fans, they are happy with the price, but for some, comparing the new game to recently released similar games like Valheim, it is slightly more.

The devs responsible for the game and the price point have openly defended the price of the game, expressing that the price is reasonable based on playtester data. The price has not stopped many, with a player peak of over 35,000 players at one moment in the first month. Jagex has not told the community how long the game will be in early access for, but the Runescape Dragonwilds roadmap gives a pretty good indication that lots will be released prior.

With the talk of a new region and a dragon! All in all, the reviews, despite the criticism about pricing, have been generally very good, so the devs have every right to stick to a price they feel worthy, and the community agrees.
