Despite being almost 14 years old, Portal 2 has witnessed a surge in player activity on Steam. The game's concurrent player count has recently peaked at 9,862 in the past 24 hours. Most of Valve's decision to discount the game to just $0.99 as part of Steam's Couch Co-Op Fest sale is responsible for this increase. The dramatic price drop attracted new players and made veteran players return to the beloved puzzle platform.
Portal 2 isn't having a revival for the first time. In January 2024, Portal: Revolution, a fan-made mod including the new test chambers, brought the game's daily peak player count to 43,559. Even though the spike isn't as big as it was in the past, it still shows that the game remains popular. It's a charming title boasting great puzzles, a co-op mode, and memorable writing, so the title justifies its place as the best.
As long as the sale is active, Portal 2 will keep on seeing its player numbers rise. Whether it's a newcomer to the game or a long-time player reviving it once more, this latest revival solidifies Portal 2's legacy as one of the best puzzle games ever.
