The Niantic gaming studio is testing a new feature called Reward Road, and its goal is to incentivize in-game purchases. The system is working in Australia and New Zealand, where the payment system tracks only direct purchasing activity while ignoring PokéCoin transactions.
Eligible purchases in the game grant players Reward Points that allow them to access numerous in-game rewards. The highest reward tier in Pokémon GO costs players approximately £500 ($630) per month, but this approach has received negative reactions from players in the community.
Premium Battle Passes and Incubators represent the rewards of this system, yet players can achieve them at lower prices by using other available game methods. The monthly Reset Policy forces players to maintain constant spending in order to gain the maximum benefits from the system.
The Pokémon Go community views this monetization initiative negatively since they believe it represents an excessive money-making attempt. Users from Reddit and social media platforms voice their anger regarding the cost and fairness of the features introduced by Niantic. The estimated monthly cost for reaching the top reward tier ranges between $500-$800 according to calculations which exceeds most players' affordability for the uninteresting benefits.
The development team from Niantic has not provided any information about implementing the global Reward Road. The feature exists in the testing phase to get the player's feedback before a broader implementation.
A new Pokémon GO system enables players to receive cash-based payment rewards.
Players receive Reward Points through direct purchases, as PokéCoin transactions do not qualify for points accumulation.
The program exists only as a testing platform in Australia and New Zealand.
