Since its release on February 28, 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds has reached over 1 million concurrent players on Steam. It has become one of the five leading titles, just behind Counter-Strike 2 and other games.
Using their RE Engine framework, Capcom developed Wilds as an open-world game that features realistic ecosystems with detailed environments. Monsters exist without limitation, becoming active predators that stalk prey with life-like hunting behaviors, which makes a genuine hunting simulation experience.
Though the launch was a success, some PC players are reporting performance issues. Players experience various issues in the game including limited fps, random crashes, and graphical problems that reappear from previous titles. The optimization problems have resulted in a Mixed Steam rating where players have vented their disappointment about the game performance.
The studio Capcom continues to resolve these bugs through active development of patches that will fix them. The developers advise players to update their graphics drivers, switch off compatibility mode, and adjust their game settings to enhance performance.
Players express negative sentiments about how the game handles its in-game microtransactions. The process to modify character appearance after its initial design requires buying character edit vouchers in the game. The condition of one free voucher by the game does not address the issue that players must purchase packs whenever they want to alter their character, which led to the gaming community opposing this practice.
Shortly after its release, the game achieved more than 1.3 million active players at the same time.
