The wasteland just got a little smoother, Vault Dwellers! The January 2025 update from Bethesda Game Studios targets Fallout 76 platform stability and attempts to eliminate multiple problems in Appalachia. Fallout 76 launched in 2018 to present a franchise prequel that features 2102 as its setting while assigning players to rebuild civilization through the Vault 76 dweller role.
Suddenly on January 21, 2025 Fallout 76 game servers disappeared from the game servers because various game-breaking crashes occurred. The game maintenance announcement initially communicated by Bethesda turned out to be a partial truth when the studio applied its game server maintenance update while players remained offline. The new update focused on fixing major raid crashes and frequent glitches, with players receiving various improvements as compensation for the temporary disruption.
Bethesda later shared a detailed list of patch notes on Twitter. Key fixes included resolving the continuous fire issue with Scorchbeasts, preventing Mothman from whispering in the Gleaming Depths, and adjusting the Super Mutants’ excessive cap drops—much to the disappointment of some players. Additional new updates ensured that supplies correctly appeared in the Pip-Boy Currencies tab and allowed the Plastiform Blue Star to be built in camps, potentially curbing the trend of floating camp constructions. The patch also introduced several adjustments to UI, Perks, Mods, Weapons, and Quests.
The latest fixes build upon changes made in the December 2024 Gleaming Depths update, particularly improving the Ash Heap region. However, some fans expressed frustration over Bethesda prioritizing Fallout 76 new updates instead of a long-awaited Starfield patch. Meanwhile, anticipation grows for Fallout 5, which Todd Howard has confirmed will follow The Elder Scrolls 6. Players have already begun speculating on potential features, including a Brotherhood of Steel-led storyline.

Yes, Super Mutants no longer drop excessive caps, disappointing some players who benefited from the extra loot.
