Blizzard extended Diablo 4 Season 7, the Season of Witchcraft, by two weeks, revealing the season will run two weeks longer than usual until April 29, 2025, after previously saying Season 7's conclusion date was April 15, 2025. The free time given to players allows them to spend time with the seasonal content, and the developers are able to achieve all the tasks they have to meet in Season 8 preparations.
New mechanics like Witchcraft Powers and Occult Gems that provided more strategic options and new gameplay experiences were also introduced in Season of Witchcraft. This extension gives players who haven't met their seasonal objectives or gotten all of the available rewards time to achieve that. Additionally, Blizzard's decision will help make the transition into Season 8, which has been hinted to bring back a familiar character.
Blizzard’s general manager of Diablo, Rod Fergusson, also mentioned noteworthy things in Season 8 that fans speculated could be involving story arcs and characters coming back. Also, the extra two weeks could assist the developers in honing upcoming content and friction with the community. Since its launch, Diablo 4's seasonal model has received many changes, and this extension hints at Blizzard being more flexible with keeping up to date and player engagement.
A delay of Season 8 further raises questions regarding the scope and whether it will change in key aspects like gameplay. Season 7 has generally been met with great praise from some fans for the extra time.
Season 7 was extended by Blizzard so that more of the player engagement could be had, and the end of Season 8 could be more finalized.
