The much-awaited Death Stranding 2 sequel is fondly named Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and is being developed by Kojima Productions. It is set to release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, with its catalyst being enhanced gameplay mechanics and narrative that further delves into the original’s unique world and themes.
The game also returns Sam Porter Bridges, portrayed by Norman Reedus, alongside established characters like Fragile (Léa Seydoux) and Higgs (Troy Baker). Completing the game’s star-studded cast are new characters Elle Fanning’s mysterious Tomorrow and Shioli Kutsuna’s Rainy. In addition, Kojima has also included the likenesses of filmmakers George Miller and Fatih Akin, adding more of a cinematic flavour to the project.
During the Tokyo Game Show 2024, Kojima Productions shared a new bit of news on the game, including a new Photo Mode, which allows players to place the characters into a variety of poses with props and gives them more creative freedom. They also brought Dollman, psychic medium turned marionette, and hinted at a musical performance by Japanese pop star Daichi Miura, another facet of the presumably deeper world.
Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the themes of isolation and connection are expected to impact the game’s setting. Though details on the plot are scarce, Kojima promises to deliver a great, thought-provoking experience that continues the lore first begun in the original.
There will be a release of the game in 2025 for PlayStation 5 A:
