Monster Hunter Wilds features some very hard-to-beat monsters. But as tough as the base-game hunts are, the post-game ones are even tougher. In the post-game, you’ll be introduced to Tempered Monsters. These variants are much stronger and even more aggressive than their base-game counterparts. Their hits are a lot harder and they take a lot longer to bring down. You might ask the question, why then should I bother fighting them? Two words; better rewards. The best way to farm the best loot like the Wyverian Bloodstones, Weapon Shards, and other rare monster parts is by defeating Tempered Monsters. You can use these loots to craft Artian Weapons and high-level decorations. In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Tempered Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds—from how they spawn to what makes them different from regular monsters, and of course how to take them down.

Tempered Monsters are not just more powerful than normal monsters. They’re also faster, meaner, and far less forgiving. There’s not much difference between their attack parts and that of the base-game monsters but they hit a lot harder and they’re harder to strike. If you’re the type that likes to take it easy in a standard hunt, you’ll need to bump it up a notch when facing Tempered Monsters. But the increased challenge comes with a lot of benefits. Here's how Tempered Monsters shakes things up:
They Drop Exclusive Materials Tempered Monsters drop all the usual materials you’d expect from their normal counterparts, but they also have a chance to drop Weapon Shards. These shards are used to craft Artian Weapons, which are among the most powerful weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds. The catch? Weapon Shards don’t drop every time. You’ll need to farm multiple Tempered Monsters if you’re trying to craft a specific Artian Weapon, so be ready for the grind.
They Can Form Tempered Wounds One unique feature of Tempered Monsters is that they develop special Wounds during a fight. If you use Focus Mode, these Wounds glow blue, making them easy to spot. Breaking these Wounds drops Wyverian Bloodstones, a rare material that you can use at the Melding Pot in Sild to craft even more Weapon Shards and decorations.
Their Hunts Offer Better Rewards Not every Tempered Monster fight is equal—some quests give better loot than others. If you open your map and press Square/X, you can see a list of monsters in the region along with a preview of their quest rewards. Tempered Monster investigations almost always offer more guaranteed rewards, including Wyvern Gems and other high-rarity materials. If you’re farming for a specific rare item, check the reward previews before choosing a hunt.
You’ll first encounter a Tempered Monster in Chapter 4 of the post-game story, during a quest called Wyvern Spark and Rose Thorns. In this mission, you’ll be sent to hunt a Tempered Lala Barina in the Ruins of Wyveria. Once you complete this quest, Tempered Monsters will start appearing in all regions, meaning you can find them in the wild or as part of special investigations.

There are two ways to hunt a Tempered Monster:

Bring Stronger Armor and Skills Since Tempered Monsters hit harder, you’ll need better defense. Make sure your armor is fully upgraded, and consider equipping decorations that boost resistance and damage reduction.
Watch for Tempered Wounds Tempered Wounds glow blue in Focus Mode, and breaking them drops Wyverian Bloodstones. If you want to farm these rare materials, prioritize attacking Wounded areas whenever possible.
