In the new upcoming Caves & Cliffs update, possibly the biggest update to come to Minecraft yet, are new features that would make any Minecraft player excited. Currently, these features can already be explored in the latest Snapshot versions on Minecraft Java and some on Minecraft Bedrock. In this guide, I will be showing you some of the upcoming features.
Amethyst
Amethyst are new crystal minerals that can be obtained from amethyst clusters. Amethyst shards can then be used to create a variety of items like amethyst blocks, spyglass, tinted glass, and much more. Amethyst can be found anywhere underground in the Overworld.
Bundles
Bundles are a new upcoming storage item, allowing for better inventory management and greatly increasing the store capacity of the player. They are used to store different items and can hold the equivalent of one inventory slot worth for a total of 64 bundle slots. Bundles cannot be directly opened after items have been added, instead, the items are taken out all at once. Hovering over the bundle will show the player what is stored inside of it.
Copper ore
Copper ore is a mineral block found underground. It can be mined with a stone pickaxe or higher, otherwise, it will not drop anything. Copper has the same rarity as iron and will spawn in the Overworld from levels 4 to 63. Copper ore can be smelted into copper ingots, which can be turned into copper blocks. Copper blocks can be turned into several different types of copper blocks as shown here.
Lightning rod
A lightning rod is mainly used to divert lightning strikes, they can be used to prevent structures from catching fire during a stormy night and when struck by lightning, it can also act as a Redstone signal.
Dripstone blocks
A dripstone block is a decoration block commonly found in dripstone caves underground in the Overworld. Dripstone blocks usually have a pointed dripstone hanging from it, which drips water. Currently, they can only be generated with a buffet or custom world type.
Tinted glass
Tinted glass is a new addition coming to Minecraft. It can be crafted by adding four amethyst shards and a normal glass block. Unlike normal glass blocks, light cannot pass through it which means the area behind it is darker. Tinted glass can be picked up without a pickaxe and will not break, allowing you to pick it up without breaking it completely.
Normal glass:
Candles
Candles can be created by combining string and honeycomb. They can be lit by using a flint and steel and can be extinguished by water. A single candle emits a light level of 3, and up to 4 similarly colored candles can be placed in one block which will increase the light level by 3 by each candle added.
A single candle can also be added on top of an uneaten cake.
Spyglass
A spyglass can be used for zooming in towards specific locations. It can be created by adding two copper ingots and a single piece of amethyst shard into a crafting table.
Lava cauldrons
On the upcoming update, it is now possible to add lava into cauldrons. Be careful though, walking over the cauldron is the same as stepping into a pool of lava and will cause damage.
Congratulations! You now know What's new in Minecraft 1.17.
