Once you're finally thrown into the brutal, immersive world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the possibilities are endless—and maybe a little overwhelming. You start off with no money, no horse, barely any skills, and the weakest of equipment. The game wants you to figure things out on your own, but if you’d rather not spend your first few hours flailing, here are ten things you should do right away to make your life in Bohemia much easier.

After the chaos of the prologue, you’ll find yourself in the care of Boanna. Step outside, and you’ll see a fresh corpse—the unfortunate soul Hans managed to kill. This is your best chance early on to grab free armor, weapons, and food. Trust me, you’ll need every scrap you can get your hands on. Gear up now, or spend your next few hours running from every fight like a peasant.
Boanna’s hut isn't just a safe place to heal; it's also where you learn alchemy. Instead of just grabbing the bare minimum ingredients, spend time picking extra herbs and brewing chamomile decoctions. Alchemy levels up fast, and once you unlock the Secret of Equilibrium perk, you’ll be able to brew high-quality potions with ease—saving you a ton of time and resources down the road.
The game throws a lot of perk points at you early on, and it’s tempting to hoard them while you figure things out. Don’t. Take a moment to explore the perk menus and pick abilities that match your playstyle. More stamina, better persuasion, or sharper sword skills—these bonuses will make survival way easier, especially in the early game.
After your unfortunate encounter with Hans, you’ll wake up in the town of Travitz, broke and alone. The first NPC you’ll see is Bara, a beggar with valuable intel. Chat with her, and she’ll mark some key locations on your map, including Tomcat’s training area and a way to sneak into a wedding. These markers will give you a solid starting direction instead of aimlessly wandering the countryside.
Manual saves are limited in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and unless you want to rely on auto-saves, you need Savior Schnapps. Head to the apothecary in town, sell some potions from Boanna’s hut and buy belladonna and nettles. Brew as many Schnapps as possible because nothing is worse than entering a tough fight with no way to save beforehand.

Walking everywhere sucks, and fast travel isn’t always an option. Your first horse can be stolen from the southern part of Travitz, and you absolutely should steal it—no regrets. However, since stolen horses can’t be whistled for, you’ll need to get Pebbles, your old horse from the first game. Head southwest to the town of Samopesh and convince the stable master to give her back. She’s not the best horse, but she’s better than nothing.
Now that you have a ride travel north to Talmberg and find the blacksmith Raban. He’ll take you on as an apprentice and teach you how to forge a hunting sword. Craft as many weapons as possible, sell them back to Raban and level up your craftsmanship skill. This will help unlock powerful perks later and progress the main quest.
Combat in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is unforgiving, and if you don’t learn the basics early, you’re going to get your ass handed to you. Tomcat, located at the training grounds west of Samopesh, will teach you crucial techniques, including how to execute combos. Once you’re confident, challenge him to a duel—if you win, you can learn the powerful Master Strike ability, making fights much more manageable.
At the Lower Mill, you’ll meet Miller Kal, who can teach you how to steal like a pro. Take his job hauling flour—it leads to a questline that introduces lockpicking, stealth, and pickpocketing. You can also endlessly practice on a lockbox to boost your skills. Nearby, you’ll find free lockpicks and a dagger, both of which are essential for sneaky gameplay.

Mutt is the best companion you could ask for—a loyal dog who can track enemies and attack on command. His questline is long but worth it. After helping a shepherd with his wolf problem, head straight to the huntsman’s house instead of wasting time with the fisherman. Eventually, you’ll need to recover a stolen horse from bandits—this is a tough fight, so use stealth. Once the horse is returned, you’ll finally find Mutt, who can also sniff out hidden items if you keep his obedience high.
