Core Keeper farming is crucial for getting the materials necessary to craft and cook your way to success. From crop growing to establishing a wood farm, this guide will walk you through everything: the very basics of farming, where to get the seeds, and how you can optimise your setup with sprinklers.
Getting Started with Farming
Farming in Core Keeper is straightforward, requiring only a few basic tools to get started:
Copper Hoe: Used to till the ground, making it ready for planting.
Watering Can: Essential for watering your plants after they've been planted.
Planting a seed is easily done by right-clicking on the tilled ground, having the seed in hand. You will then need to water the crop, usually only once, but some plants may need a second watering.
With improved farming skills, there are more significant chances of obtaining seeds and extra crops, making your farming efforts more efficient and rewarding.
Where to Find Seeds
By the time you start farming, you likely already have some seeds in your inventory. Here are some reliable sources for acquiring more:
Dirt Biome: Slimes in this beginner area often drop seeds.
Wild Plants: Harvesting wild plants or opening chests and crates can yield seeds.
Azeos' Wilderness:This biome is rich in seeds, especially from yellow plants, which drop random seeds when destroyed.
With a steady supply of seeds, you can start diversifying your crops and expanding your farm.
Managing Water on Your Farm
If there is no nearby water in the place you want to farm, fear not because Core Keeper has got an easy way to do so. Just shovel some ground with a shovel, and water will fill in the hole.
You can then create a trench where you want the water to go so that it reaches anywhere you want. This also means that whenever you run out of water in your Watering Can, having one near you means you don't have to run across the map for water.

Automating Your Farm with Sprinklers
Definitely one of the most advanced farm tools within Core Keeper, the Sprinkler added in the Sunken Sea update automatically irrigates the 5x5 area around itself.
Steps to Unlock and Use the Sprinkler:Action | Description |
---|
Defeat Bosses | Start by defeating Glurch, Ghorm, and the Hive Mother. |
Upgrade to Iron Tier | Craft the Iron Workbench using 10 Wood, 10 Tin Bars, and 20 Iron Bars. |
Farm Scarlet Ore | Travel to Azeos' Wilderness, collect Scarlet Ore, and smelt it into Scarlet Bars. |
Craft a Scarlet Workbench | This requires 10 Tin Bars, 15 Iron Bars, and 25 Scarlet Bars. |
Build the Automation Table | At the Scarlet Workbench, use 5 Mechanical Parts, 8 Iron Bars, and 8 Scarlet Bars to craft the table. |
Craft the Sprinkler | Finally, use the Automation Table to build a Sprinkler with 8 Scarlet Bars and 8 Iron Bars. |
Once crafted, place the Sprinkler on the ground, and it will automatically water all surrounding crops, saving you time and effort.
Creating a Wood Farm
While farming in Core Keeper does apply to the more traditional sense of growing crops, you can also take the time to create a wood farm, which is arguably a bit easier than farming plants.
Steps to Create a Wood Farm:
Prepare the Ground: Till some dirt with your Hoe and have a Watering Can ready.
Plant a Root Seed: This will grow into a wood-producing plant with leaves. Ensure you till the area around the Root Seed to allow roots to spread.
Harvesting: Break the excess roots that grow around the central plant, but avoid breaking the central piece. It will continue to produce wood as long as it has space to grow.
If you're looking for Coral Wood, head to the Sunken Sea biome, where you'll need to plant the seeds on Beach Sand Ground.
