Companions are often a huge part of a player’s Avowed adventure. Following this thought, it’s well worth knowing how to unlock all companions in Avowed - and today, we’ve outlined some of the key things you should know about the many different companions in the game to help. After all, although there are many different companions you can unlock for your travels, not all are necessarily as easy or obvious to unlock as others. So, knowing where to begin with this decision could definitely help make it a little easier.
Companions in Avowed largely serve the same role in Avowed as in other games, accompanying your character during their adventure. Not only can they assist your character in battles, but companions in Avowed can also have a range of other abilities that make them incredibly handy to have around. Plus, they can also teach your own character some new tricks and abilities, further making companions incredibly useful characters to enrol onto your team.
Since companions are so useful to include in your game, perhaps it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that unlocking them is incredibly important. However, it’s relatively easy to overlook this while focusing on the main story; still, there are plenty of great reasons to partner up, and the companions you’ll be able to unlock include the following characters.
The very first companion you’ll have in the game, Garryck joins your team immediately after your first shipwreck. Unfortunately, once you dock in Paradis, Garryck will leave your party, making him a very short-lived companion, and his main role is largely to assist during early game fights and teach you the nature of companion mechanics. While there’s no way to stop Garryck from abandoning you after the first introduction to your game, one thing that you can control is the stability of your server. Indeed, when you invest in premium private Avowed hosting, you can count on a stable experience with 24/7 server uptime, full access to your server’s settings, DDoS protection, and much more. So, why chance it?
As with Garryck, Ilora is another temporary companion who will only join your team for a short while - and only if you choose to release her from her prison cell. While her usefulness to the team is somewhat limited during that brief interaction together, Ilora is nevertheless still useful to keep around thanks to her use of early-game magic. She can also be found wandering the Living Lands later in the game, and if you’ve freed her, she can even turn up during a particular side quest to help.
With Garryck having abandoned you after docking in Paradis, you’ll likely be feeling a little alone. Don’t fret, though, because Kai’s there to pick up the slack. Despite being a gun user, Kai is generally an “up close and personal” type of fighter, and he often deals a great deal of damage to foes. He can also train the player by two points in might and/or constitution. Fortunately, Kai is easy to unlock, being unlocked as a companion in the main story quest after you’ve finished the Message From Afar quest. So, you won’t be left on your own for too long!
The next companion you can unlock in the game is Marius, who is unlocked after finishing the Untimely End quest. Marius serves a crucial role in helping the player find the assassin; however, he’s more than happy to hang around once you’ve finished the mission, too. Marius is especially useful as his ability tags any loot, plants, and enemies nearby, and he can provide +2 in either (or split between) constitution and dexterity.
During the main story quest “Ancient Soil,” you’ll meet Giatta, an incredibly useful companion whose healing abilities make her an almost invaluable ally. After all, having more health can never be a bad thing, and she’s also useful for her ability to use Spectral Jolt. Plus, she’ll be able to train the player in either intellect or resolve (or both) to a maximum of +2 stats.
Although Yatzli is met relatively early in the game, she won’t actively join your party at the outset. However, when she does after completing the “Face Your Fears” quest, she’s definitely an excellent person to have on board with your team, not least of all for the fact that she deals a massive amount of damage with her arcane missile ability. She can also dispel illusions, which is incredibly useful in many scenarios (and for which there is no other option). Yatzli will also teach the player +2 in perception, intellect, or shared between both.
In total, Avowed has six different companions for players to choose from, and each of these companions has their own unique abilities and effects. As a result, you may well want to consider carefully how to use these companion abilities to the best effect in your own game.
Unlike many other games, where you’ll only have a single companion at a time, you can potentially have up to four companions in Avowed, although you can only actively travel with two. These all join your teams at different times. It is also impossible in the vanilla game to have all six companions in your team at once.
The best companion in Avowed is largely a subjective question, as each companion has unique traits. However, Yatzli is widely considered by many Avowed players to be the best thanks to her high DPS nature; as a result, she’s an excellent companion for increasing the amount of damage dealt to your enemies.
If you’ve been looking to make the most of each new opportunity in Avowed, it’s crucial to think about the role of companions during your adventure - and luckily, there are plenty of ways that companions can help make your travels a little easier overall. However, it’s important to keep in mind here that not all companions are quite as easy to unlock as others. Given this thought, it’s crucial to keep today’s tips in mind if you’ve got a particular companion you want to aim for during your adventure. And remember: talking with your companions regularly during your travels actually allows you to learn some of their abilities or improve your skills, so don’t just neglect them!
