Lockpicks are incredibly important in Avowed, and as such, knowing how to get hold of them is paramount. Indeed, these can potentially open access to some incredible loot that might otherwise be off the cards. Given this thought, today, we’re exploring the exciting world of Avowed - and, more specifically, its lockpicks - to help you decide
Lockpicks are incredibly useful in Avowed for several reasons, making them useful pieces of equipment to keep on hand; in fact, you’ll often find that lockpicks will lend themselves incredibly well to your travels, and they’re an essential item if you want to really make the most of your explorations in the game - not least because they unlock plenty of really valuable chests.
As we’ve mentioned, lockpicks are used to open up locked chests in Avowed, with easy chests only needing one or two lockpicks and harder chests requiring many more, sometimes as many as five lockpicks. This differs from most RPGs, where lockpicks are often based on a character skill or a lockpicking minigame (sometimes even both).
Instead, using a lockpick in Avowed is as simple as approaching the chest in question and using the necessary number of lockpicks depending on the chest’s difficulty level. To do so, simply approach the chest and use the action button, and this should automatically unlock the chest, assuming you have enough lockpicks in your inventory to complete the action.
This can potentially be frustrating, of course; after all, if you’re typically good at lockpicking games, being forced to use more lockpicks than you’d usually need can seem annoying. Still, on the other hand, it’s a great feature for those who typically struggle with lockpicking techniques. After all, it can be quite fiddly! And, of course, factors such as lag can severely impact this in other games. While this isn’t such a severe worry for lockpicking in Avowed specifically, it’s still incredibly important to ensure your game is running smoothly; as such, we recommend starting your game with an Avowed dedicated server initially to enjoy 24/7 server uptime and a lag-free gaming experience.
By now, we’ve briefly discussed how lockpicking works in Avowed. However, the question still remains: where can you get lockpicks in Avowed? Well, there are actually several places that you can get lockpicks throughout the game, giving players plenty of options for where to source these.
Now, perhaps the most obvious way to obtain lockpicks is simply to buy them from merchants. Indeed, there are numerous merchants throughout the Living Lands that will sell lockpicks, and although these will usually be in limited numbers, the merchants often restock them every few days. As such, this can be a reliable - albeit costly - way to get lockpicks in Avowed, with each lockpick costing around 15 copper skeyt. That’s not much in itself, of course, but it can add up over time if you need to collect a large number of lockpicks.
In addition to purchasing them, you can also find lockpicks in the Living Lands as loot from enemies - with bandits being the best source generally. However, other enemies can also drop lockpicks, so always check enemy corpses just in case. This isn’t necessarily the most dependable way to get hold of lockpicks, though, so buying some is generally still advisable (at least until you have a collection to draw upon).
And, of course, it’s worth noting that you can potentially find lockpicks within other chests, too. While this isn’t necessarily something you should count on, it’s still good to know that you can potentially recoup some of the lockpicks you’ve used when opening up chests.
The best way to get lockpicks in Avowed is to purchase them from merchants. However, you can also find them in chests in the world and as loot from enemies.
No. Lockpicking in Avowed is exclusively determined by the number of lockpicks your character has in their possession and not by any skills or abilities. If you don’t have enough lockpicks, you won’t be able to unlock chests.
Yes! Merchants in Avowed will usually restock their lockpick supplies every few days. However, keep in mind that they’ll only get a couple in stock at a time usually, so you won’t necessarily be able to get endless supplies in this way.
Lockpicking is a hugely valuable action in Avowed, but unlike in many other games, success with lockpicking is not determined by your character’s stats; instead, this is predominantly based on the number of lockpicks you have in your inventory! As a result, the importance of picking up plenty of lockpicks at every opportunity cannot be stressed highly enough; they can potentially open up some incredibly valuable loot in turn!
