The whole purpose of a modification pack is to change the conventional Minecraft experience by enhancing or altering certain gameplay mechanics. So when someone created a modification pack which enhanced and also an existing modification pack, you knew that things were going to be interesting. That is exactly what Sky Factory is - Something that deviates from the conventional experience in such a way that it stands alone as being a unique entity, while still offering all of the charm and appeal of the original modification pack.
Like the original mod pack that it was based on, Sky Factory puts a considerable emphasis on being in the air. You start with a basic setup. There is one block of dirt, and a tree, suspended in a void. How you choose to move around and interact with the terrain around you is your choice. It can be challenging, but ultimately worth the time if you put the effort in.
The original model, Skyblock, is still here and you can see the impact it had on the creation of this. The original elements are present and correct, but they aren’t the driving focus anymore. Instead, it’s put on a very advanced form of gameplay. You have access to whatever you want in the way of progression so long as you are prepared to work for it.
From a technical perspective, the mod performs very well. There is no lag or issues, no glaring problems with the mod. It’s clear that the development team behind this were experts in their field and knew exactly how to construct a good game. The worry whenever you start tinkering with custom offerings from fans is that the gameplay and technological sides of the project will diminish. This isn’t the case here, thankfully - it performs well and is smooth yet responsive.
This is definitely not a vanilla Minecraft experience. You get access to all of the conventional gameplay mechanics, but the difficulty has been amped up to suit the type of gameplay experience on offer. You’re going to struggle from time to time and that is no bad thing. If you like a challenge, this is the experience for you. The difficulty isn’t incredibly frustrating so much as it is rewarding enough for people who are prepared to put the time and effort into what they do.
So in conclusion, there is definitely a lot to appreciate here when it comes to getting the most from your experiences with this mod. Is it like the others? No, not quite. There’s an extra layer of difficulty that you might struggle to adapt to at first. But if you learn how to make it work, it’ll be so worth it for you. The way that you interact with the terrain is down to you and your ideas. A lot of time and effort went into this mod pack, and it does show in all of the little quirks and foibles. You’d definitely be wise to give this a go - try out the experience for yourself and see what you think!
