There’s a giant green blob in Valheim MP that lives in the Swamp biome. This boss, sometimes called Bonemass Valheim or Valheim Bonemass, no thanks to ridiculous Google searches, is the third boss in the game that you need to defeat. And he is no pushover; not one bit!

However, you can defeat this boss with a simple strategy which we will explain in this guide.

Making Your Way to Bonemass

Bonemass lives in the Swamp biome and you need to clear out a few bosses to get there. First is Eikthyr, who lives in the MEadows. After that, you need to fight and defeat the Elder, boss of the Black Forest biome. And voila! You get access to the Swamps. Now, this place is crawling with some of the deadliest enemies you can think of so you need the toughest Bronze armor you can lay hands on.

How To Summon Bonemass

Before you can fight Bonemass, you first need to get to a specific altar. To do this, you need to interact with the rune stones in the Swamp. You also need the Swamp Key that you earned after defeating the Elder. This key will help you to get in and react with the rune stone. Then Bonemass’s location will be shown on your map.



To summon Bonemass you need something called withered bone Valheim. You actually need 10 of these withered bones which can be found in the Sunken Crypts or you can mine them from Muddy Scrap Piles.

What You'll Need To Fight Bonemass

Stronger Armor

Whatever you do, always know that Bonemass is not just a giant blob that fights alone. He has a lot of protection and he deals heavy damages so you need more than Valheim root armor if you’re going to defeat him.

It’s advisable for you to spend more time to mine iron so you can craft a full set of iron armor before you engage the boss. Also, make sure you upgrade all your armor before trying Bonemass weakness.

Ranged Weapons

Let’s be honest, arrows don’t do much damage to Bonemass. The boss is also resistant to Pierce damage and this means your regular arrows are not going to do anything to hurt him.

Don’t even think of attacking up close. What you need are range weapons.

The first one you need is frost arrows since Bonemass is weak to Frost damage. You will need to make as many as possible, though since Binemass won’t go down easily. To get Frost arrows, you need to enter the Mountain biome to get what you need to make them. These include Frost Resistance Mead, which can be made using 10 honey, 5 thistles, 2 bloodbags, and 1 Greydwarf Eye.

You also need Frost Glands which can be gotten from Drakes that live in the mountains. You will also need Obsidian from the Obsidian rocks. You will need 200 or more of these.

Melee Weapons

Blunt damage makes Bonemass weak. So you can ditch your arrows for close-range weapons as they deal more damage. The best weapon to get is the Iron Mace.



The boss will also fight back by throwing some of its own melee weapons at you so you need to be able to block attacks too. You must have the Iron Tower Shield as it's the best defense you can get against the boss. The only downside to this is that it limits your speed by 20%.

Food

Food is important in Valheim. If you’re going to the Swamps, do well to go with Draugr Entrails with which you can make sausages on the go. Queens Jam is also a good option. These foods will help you to keep your stamina so you can be on your feet as you fight the boss.

Don’t forget to also take the Medium Healong Mead and the Poison Resistance Mead so you can heal on time and also repel poisonous attacks that could make you lose quickly.

Quick Ability

Using the Eikthyr can help you to run around while fighting the boss as it will continue to pursue all around the fighting area. It can also do an area-of-effect attack that can be very deadly if you don’t run away quickly.

Eventually, defeating Bonemass means you have to rely on your wits and adopt several strategies if you’re ever going to win. You need to be able to combine melee attacks with range attacks as soon as you come up against this Swamp boss. Range attacks are useful when you have gained a certain advantage in the fighting arena. Melee attacks can help you deal a lot of damage to Bonemass when in close combat.
