Unlocking the Network: How to Obtain Pylons
Pylons are not littered throughout the world, with the only requirement being for someone to find them. Some conditions have to be met before a pylon is available for purchase. This is what you have to know:
- NPC Neighborhood: Each Pylon has a relation to a singular biome. To activate a pylon, you need to have at least two of those same biome NPCs amongst the 3-9 that typically spawn in close distance (usually within an area 169 blocks wide by 124 blocks tall).
- The merchant connection: After your need to house is satisfied, the corresponding pylon can be bought from the Merchant. The Merchant is a mobile NPC that appears randomly in your world at completely random times of the day.
- Biome-Specific Costs: Each Pylon has a specific cost associated with it, typically ranging from 5 to 10 Gold Coins.
Remember, you can only have one Pylon of each type placed in your world at a time!
A World of Choices: The Different Pylons Available
With various biomes in Terraria, there's a corresponding Pylon for many of them. Here's a breakdown of the obtainable Pylons:
- Forest Pylon: Purchase from the Merchant after housing two Forest NPCs (Dryad, Painter, Zoologist, Witch).
- Ocean Pylon: Appears after housing two Ocean NPCs (Angler, Pirate Captain).
- Cavern Pylon: Becomes available after housing two Cavern NPCs (Demolitionist, Goblin Tinkerer, Mechanic).
- Mushroom Pylon: Requires two Mushroom NPCs (Truffle, Glowworm Shaman) as residents.
- Jungle Pylon: Jungle NPCs (Witch Doctor, Dryad) living nearby activate this Pylon.
- Snow Pylon: Housing two Snow NPCs (Snowman Party Girl) unlocks this Pylon.
- Hallow Pylon: Requires two Hallow NPCs (Steampunker, Stylist) to be housed nearby.
- Desert Pylon: Appears after housing two Desert NPCs (Arms Dealer, Painter).
There are also two Hardmode-exclusive Pylons:- Universal Pylon: Sold by the Tavernkeep after defeating the Golem in Hardmode. It requires at least one NPC housed from each Hardmode biome, except for the Underworld.
- Ocean Crate Pylon: A rare drop from enemies in the Hardmode Ocean biome.
With so many Pylons to collect, you'll be a master of teleportation in no time!
Warping Across the World: Using Pylons for Efficiency
Once you've acquired Pylons, here's how to utilize them for quick and easy travel:
- Placement and Power: Place your Pylons around the entire world, focusing on strategic placement in places that would be convenient for their use. Pylons need support from the housing to work, so be careful to bear that in mind.
- Activation and Teleportation: Just click on any one pylon to get a list of all other activated pylons in the world, then click on a destination pylon of your choice, and voila! Instant teleportation.
Pylons are a game-changer, allowing you to navigate vast distances in seconds!
No, after activating a Pylon and having the needed NPCs near the Pylon that's been activated, one has the freedom to remove the NPCs to other places without altering their functions or effects.
Absolutely! Pylons play perfectly well with a group, and any group member on the server can teleport between activated Pylons.
Don't worry! You can repurchase the Pylon from the Merchant as long as the housing requirements are still met.
Placing Pylons near key areas you frequent (Boss arenas, resource farms, NPC hubs) optimizes their usefulness.
