Summoning The Twins
There are two ways to summon The Twins:
- The eyes have it. This item is crafted at a Demon Altar using 6 Lens (droppable from Demon Eyes), 3 Iron/Lead Bars, and 1 Shadow Scale (drop from Demons in the Corruption biome). Simply use the Mechanical Eye at night anywhere in your world, and The Twins will be summoned.
- Natural Spawn—10% chance of naturally spawning The Twins during the onset of Dusk, after breaking a Demon Altar or Crimson Altar (located in the Crimson biome). It is a random event that should not be counted upon if the player wants to ensure they get to fight it.
Preparing for The Twins
Before summoning The Twins, ensure you've met the following criteria:
- Hardmode: The Twins are a Hardmode boss, so you will have to defeat the Wall of Flesh first. This is also a type of boss fight that highly amplifies the difficulty of enemies and is going to expose you to some new biomes and items.
- Gear Up: Emphasize the armour that has high defence. Good choices to consider would be the molten armour (from crafting demonize or brimstone bars; found in the Underworld), or meteor armour (from crafting meteorites dropped by the falling star event). Better upgrade your weapons! To use weapons with high DPS (like a Night's Edge, crafted from a true Night's Edge dropped by Skeletons in Hardmode, who are only present after the Eye of Cthulu has been defeated) or a bow with meteor arrows.
- Accessories: Please fill in the best accessories that can help in boosting your combat effectively. Focus on those that help boost health, defence, and even attack power. Horseshoe Balloon, and Rocket Boots (found in Sky Chests), will fulfill the mobility aspect.
- The Arena: An advised one for building an arena. Build a long platform stretching through the whole sky biome. It offers quite a lot of space to dodge attacks from The Twins. Make sure that you use biometrically far from one another as you put platforms to allow easy movement of this mode. Consider putting Campfires and Honey on a platform so they provide extra healing and reduce fall damage. Place some Heart Lanterns around in a few strategic locations to further increase health regen.
- Potions: health potions will be needed in abundance (Healing Potions or one of its modifications), Ironskin Potions (increase in defence), Regen Potions (health points recovery), and Swiftness Potions (speed of movement).
Strategies for The Twins
The Twins, Retinaszer (the red eye) and Spazmatism (the green eye), have distinct attack patterns:
- Retinaszer: Shoots a continuous laser beam and charges directly at the player.
- Spazmatism: Fires cursed flames and erratically teleports around the map.
Here are some combat strategies to employ:- Use the Arena. The platform helps you avoid the attacks by both bosses effectively. Run back and forth once and avoid the laser and charging attacks. Be careful not to outrun Spazmatism so it despawns when being left too far behind.
- Prioritize Targets: Focus on defeating one eye at a time. Most players will be prepared to kill Spazmatism first, as his movement is relatively erratic and hence provides a harder target.
- Vertical Movement: Make good use of the platforms. Jump to avoid the attacks of Spazmatism and get breathing room from the laser of Retinaszer.
- Stay Mobile: Don't stand still! Constant movement makes you a harder target for both bosses.
- Summon Help: Terraria allows multiplayer. Enlist a friend (or two!) to help you take down The Twins.

Not that kind of anymore! That would have worked in previous versions of Terraria, but the Twins can teleport through blocks—a moot point, my friend.
This won't reset the fight, but this time, you will not have to focus your attacks on Retinazer. Spazmatism will not respawn throughout the fight.
No. The Twins remain active even after you die. Simply return to the arena and continue the fight.
Conclusion
Defeating The Twins is one of the great leaps in Hardmode progression for Terraria. If defeated, it leads to more crafting resources and essential loot drops that the player will need in Hardmode. But remember, Terrarians, it's all in the preparation! Follow this guide with a few tweaks of your own, and you should have no problem putting down this fearsome duo.
