As we approach the later game, new content doesn’t have to slow down - and one of the biggest additions to Pelican Town you’ll notice after completing the Community Center or JojaMart upgrades is the Movie Theater. But what is the Movie Theater in Stardew Valley, how do you unlock it (hint: you’ll have to complete the secret Movie Theater bundle), and is it worth going to the movie theater in Stardew Valley anyway?
What is the Movie Theater in Stardew Valley?
Before we go any further, it’s first important that we define what the movie theater in Stardew Valley is. The Movie Theater is a unique building in Stardew Valley that - as you might expect - allows the player to watch films within the game. Of course, these aren’t full films like you might view in a real life cinema, but they can offer a fun little addition to the game.
In addition to allowing players to watch movies in the game, the Movie Theater also serves as a shop, allowing the player to purchase a range of different snacks for their guests. These items can provide a significant friendship boost on top of the boost provided by the film itself.
How do you Build the Movie Theater in Stardew Valley?
There are two ways to build the Movie Theater in Stardew Valley, depending on the route you have chosen for the rest of your game. Namely, these are as follows.
Community Center Route
If you have chosen to go down the Community Center route for your Stardew game, you’ll need to unlock the Missing Bundle before you can build the Movie Theater. The Missing Bundle is activated during the first rainy or stormy night after completing the Community Center when a bolt of lightning strikes the old, abandoned JojaMart. After this event, the Missing Bundle will appear within the old store, and completing this will trigger the Junimos to convert the store into a Movie Theater.
JojaMart Route
If you’ve gone down the JojaMart route, don’t fret; you can still build the Movie Theater once all other community upgrades are finished. The cost to build the Movie Theater through JojaMart is 500,000g, although you’ll need to have completed all of the other upgrades first which come to a combined 135,000g. After doing so, the option to build the Movie Theater will unlock. Once purchased, the Movie Theater will replace the newly-built JojaMart Warehouse.
What Can You Do at the Movie Theater in Stardew Valley?
Once the Movie Theater is built, you’ll be able to attend a film - either alone or with another player / an NPC - to watch an in-game movie. Watching a movie requires you to purchase a ticket for yourself and any guests to go with you; tickets to the movie theater come at 1,000g each, meaning you’ll need to pay 2,000g to take a guest to the movies.
When attending the movies with an NPC guest, you can earn anywhere up to 200 friendship points for the movie alone, plus additional friendship points for purchasing concessions to go along with the movie. Notably, purchasing a loved concession will provide a 50 friendship points boost to the player’s relationship. However, keep in mind that the available concessions generally rotate, so there’s no way to necessarily say which items will be available.
One thing you won’t need to worry about being available, though, is your Stardew Valley server when you partner with Scala Cube. With 24/7 uptime and a lag-free experience, premium servers offer far more control and a much more stable gameplay experience overall.
Watching Movies
There are numerous movies you can watch at the Movie Theater in Stardew Valley, each of which plays once every two years (being shown for a total of one month in the Theater). These are as follows:
- The Brave Little Sapling
- Journey of the Prairie King: The Motion Picture
- Mysterium
- The Miracle at Coldstar Ranch
- Natural Wonders: Exploring Our Vibrant World
- Wumbus
- It Howls in the Rain
- The Zuzu City Express
Every NPC has unique preferences when it comes to which movie they would most like to see. The only exception to this is the Dwarf, who simply loves to see any movie played in the Movie Theater.
Concessions
In addition to the aforementioned movies, it’s also possible to buy concessions when visiting the Movie Theater in Stardew Valley. Some of the main concessions available to choose from include:
- Apple slices
- Black licorice
- Cappuccino mousse cake
- Chocolate popcorn
- Cotton candy
- Lightly salted fries
- Hummus snack pack
- Ice cream sandwich
- Jasmine tea
- Jawbreakers
- Kale smoothie
- Nachos
- Panzanella salad
- Personal pizza
- Popcorn
- Rock candy
- Salmon burger
- Salted peanuts
- Sour slimes
- Star cookies
- Stardrop sorbet
- Truffle popcorn
In addition to the items listed above, if you built the Movie Theater in the old JojaMart warehouse, you’ll be able to buy JojaCola and JojaCorn. However, almost everyone dislikes these two products, with the exception of Shane, Leo, Pam, and (in the case of JojaCorn) Sam. JojaCorn and JojaCola are significantly subsidized compared to the other concessions, though.
Overall, the most popular concession in the Movie Theater is the Stardrop Sorbet, which is loved by everyone other than Leo (who likes it) and Krobus (who dislikes it). However, at 1250g, Stardrop Sorbet is the most expensive concession in the Theater.
The Crane Game
Along with watching a movie, players can also play The Crane Game in the Movie Theater, which is found inside the lobby. The Crane Game costs 500g to play and can only be played before watching the move; after watching a movie in the Theater, it will always be occupied. Successfully grabbing a prize can yield a range of different items, both decorative and functional.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! Once you have completed all community upgrades, you can pay 500,000g to JojaMart to convert their warehouse into a shiny new Movie Theater. This also unlocks JojaCola and JojaCorn in the movie theater.
There are several things to do in the Movie Theater. Alongside watching a film, you can also purchase concessions for a friend and play the Crane Game, which offers a range of prizes.
The Stardew Valley Movie Theater is open from 9am to 9pm, most days. However, it is closed on the majority of festival days.
Final Thoughts
There are many different buildings to complete in Stardew Valley, and the Movie Theater is just one such example. However, it’s not always easy to decide whether it’s worth going down this route - especially given that the items required for the Missing Bundle (for those playing the community center route) are relatively valuable and hard to obtain. Nevertheless, today’s guide should have hopefully helped you decide whether this is the route you want to go down.
