Have you ever wondered about how to get a blue chicken in Stardew Valley? As in real life, there’s a huge amount of diversity between Stardew Valley chickens—but, of course, blue chickens aren’t something you’ll likely see very often in the real world. With that in mind, today, we’re looking at some of the key things you should know about chickens in Stardew Valley, and specifically, the blue chicken in particular. Hopefully, this will help you create the perfect flock of feathered friends for your farm, too.
Is There a Blue Chicken in Stardew Valley?
Blue chickens are possible in real life, but these typically have a muted color scheme and a roan color. However, blue chickens in Stardew Valley are much more vibrant, boasting an incredibly bright blue feather pattern with a purple crest on their heads. These chickens largely have the same basic design as other chickens in Stardew Valley, although they do have longer tail feathers that give them a very elegant look.
How Do I Get a Stardew Valley Blue Chicken?
Unfortunately, you can’t simply buy a Stardew Valley blue chicken from Marnie’s Ranch from day one. However, it is possible to unlock these gorgeous animals by completing Shane’s eight heart event.
How to Make Friends with Shane in Stardew Valley
Before you can view Shane’s eight heart event, you’ll naturally need to make friends with him. The easiest and quickest way to do this is to give him gifts twice a week. The good news here is that Shane’s loved items—alongside universally loved items—are very easy to get hold of, making it easy to make friends with him quickly.
Shane loves hot peppers, which you can grow in the summer in Stardew Valley. Hot peppers grow from pepper seeds and only take five days to grow, with a 3-day regrow time thereafter. As such, if you plant pepper seeds on
Day One of Summer, you can get eight harvests from each plant.
Other loved items include beer and pizza, both of which can be made or bought from the Stardrop Saloon. In addition, you can also cook pepper poppers from a hot pepper and a piece of cheese; however, it’s more efficient to simply give Shane the hot pepper itself, which he still loves.
Giving Shane a loved gift on his birthday will also boost his friendship with you significantly. Shane’s birthday is on the 20th of Spring. Of course, if it’s your first year, you won’t have unlocked red peppers yet, so you’ll need to buy gifts for Shane from the Stardrop Saloon (unless you happen to get hold of a universal gift first).
Completing Shane’s Eight Heart Event
Once you’ve reached eight hearts with Shane (equivalent to 2000 friendship points), you can view his eight-heart event. Shane’s Eight Heart event requires you to visit Marnie’s Ranch at a time when Shane is also present in the home; this will trigger Jas to lead you into the farm’s chicken coop, where Shane can be found talking to his chickens.
It’s worth noting you will need to have seen Shane’s six heart event before you can get the eight heart event to trigger.
Getting a Blue Chicken in Stardew Valley
Once you have seen Shane’s eight heart event, you can purchase blue chickens from Marnie’s ranch. Each chicken you buy has a 25% chance of being a blue chicken. Similarly, you can also incubate brown or white chicken eggs for a 25% chance of hatching a blue chicken.
