Have you ever heard of ancient fruit in Stardew Valley? Ancient fruit, as the name would imply, are very unique types of crops that are not necessarily available on day one of the game, and they can’t simply be purchased at Pierre’s General Store. However, if you can get your hands on a Stardew Valley ancient fruit, knowing what to do with it is incredibly useful; luckily, we’ve outlined a couple of key things you should know to help with this.
What are Stardew Valley Ancient Fruits?
Ancient fruits, as hinted at by the description, are brightly colored blue fruits that have “been dormant for eons,” indicating a very long history. They are able to grow in all three main growing seasons (Spring, Summer, and Fall) and can also grow in the greenhouse during the Winter.
Unfortunately, they do have a long growing time of 28 days, so planting these crops is definitely a labor of love. However, once they have grown, they then yield fruits every seven days; as such, if you were to plant an ancient fruit on day 1 of spring and water it every day, you would be able to harvest more fruits every Monday from the 1st of summer onwards.
Given their difficult to obtain nature and long growing times, it’s safe to say that ancient fruits are worth a pretty penny. They aren’t the most valuable or lucrative crop in the game, but they are among the most profitable (especially among multi-season crops). As such, ancient fruits are well worth growing if you can get hold of them.
Do Villagers Like Ancient Fruits?
These bright fruits, despite their intriguing appearance, are surprisingly uninteresting to many Pelican Town residents; in fact, only eleven people like them, nineteen are neutral, and four people even outright dislike them.
One thing that everyone hates, though, is when your server lags; so, be sure to consider investing in a premium ScalaCube Stardew Valley server to ensure that the only ancient things on your farm are these seeds (and not a tired or outdated server running in the background).
Where Can I Get Ancient Fruit Seeds in Stardew Valley?
Thus far, we’ve considered what Ancient Fruits are, but where can you get seeds for these? Given that Ancient Fruit seeds are not readily available in stores like most other crops, you’ll need to be prepared to get your hands dirty if you want to get hold of some of these. Luckily, there are a few options.
Finding Ancient Seed Artifacts
Chances are, the first time you’ll stumble across Ancient Fruit seeds is when you find an Ancient Seed artifact. These seeds are dry and old and cannot be planted as they are. They are infrequently found as a digging reward in Cindersap Forest and the mountain, and can also be obtained in many other ways. Bugs, cave flies, grubs, and mutant versions thereof can drop ancient seeds at a rate of 0.5%, and roughly 0.75% of treasure chests may contain one. In addition, they are found in 3.7% of artifact troves.
As such, getting hold of an ancient seed, though a little tricky, is absolutely possible. In fact, many people will stumble across one of these in the first season or two of playing, provided they are exploring a lot. However, this still begs the question: what should you do with these?
Well, since ancient seed artifacts cannot grow as they are, they will need to be converted into viable seeds through crafting. You can obtain this recipe from Gunther by donating an ancient seed to the museum. This will allow you to convert Ancient Seed artifacts into viable Ancient Seeds.
Using a Stardew Valley Seed Maker
Another way to obtain Ancient Seeds is to use the seed maker. If you’ve previously grown Ancient Fruit, putting these back in the seed maker will give between one and three Ancient Seeds.
Alternatively, there is a 0.5% chance of getting a pack of Ancient Seeds when using the seed maker for any other type of crop; as such, if you’re looking to get more Ancient Seeds quickly, converting a lot of low-value crops (such as wheat) into seeds may help. However, this can be quite labor intensive and, on average, will need around 200 seed conversions to get a single pack of ancient seeds, so it may be more viable to simply convert Ancient Fruits (given their seven-day regrow window).
FAQs
In the past, Ancient Fruit used to be sold by the traveling cart. Unfortunately, though, this was stopped in update 1.6.3, meaning that you can no longer purchase ancient fruits initially from any store. However, you can donate an Ancient Seed artifact to Gunther at the museum in exchange for one pack of Ancient Seeds and the recipe to create them.
Absolutely! While some crops won’t grow in the greenhouse, ancient fruits are perfectly fine to cultivate in your greenhouse. However, since they are able to grow year-round, this is mainly useful in the winter, as you might as well plant them outside (with scarecrow protection) in the other seasons.
If you have found an ancient seed artifact, it’s worth noting that this seed isn’t actually fertile anymore. However, if you donate the seed to the museum, Gunther will teach you a recipe for how to rejuvenate ancient seeds, allowing you to craft fertile seed packs from any
future ancient seeds you find. He’ll also give you a single pack of ancient seeds, presumably made from the seed you donated.
Final Thoughts
Ancient fruits are among the hardest crops to grow in Stardew Valley, simply owing to the fact that finding an ancient seed isn’t guaranteed. However, if you can get hold of an ancient seed, it’s well worth donating these to the museum to obtain the ancient seed recipe; this will allow you to grow ancient fruit, which can be incredibly lucrative. In fact, ancient fruits are among the most valuable crops in the game, so this is well worth keeping in mind.
