So, you've decided to try Rust.
You may be wondering where to start. Don't worry! We've got you covered.
Here are some tips and tricks to help you get started in this survival game based on our experiences with Rust.
Rust is a survival game where you control a character in an open world. You craft weapons, buildings, clothes and more with resources in the world around you. You can team up with other players, fight against them for resources, and form gangs or clans to take on other groups of players.
The setting of Rust is an island that has been cut off from the rest of Earth by some cataclysmic event (you'll have to find out what caused this catastrophe for yourself!). There are no bosses here; instead, there are endless opportunities for adventure!

#1 Use an Online Map
In Rust, as in other games of its ilk, there are many resources that you will want to collect. These include wood and stone for building, metal and sulfur for weapons and tools, and berries for food. There are also plenty of animals to hunt (and eat) as well as other players who may be looking to do the same thing.
To help you find these resources quickly and easily, a commonly-used tool is an online map made by someone else looking to share their findings with others. Most maps have been created either by players themselves or through collaborations between multiple people within the community.
They can include everything from where bears spawn at night on one server; which caves hold coal deposits; where certain types of trees grow at high altitudes; right down through naming several spots where there'll always be some kind of resource nearby!
#3 Weapons, and Armor
Weapons can be found in chests or crafted yourself.
The blacksmith also sells armor which you can use to protect yourself from damage in-game. You will have to purchase these with ingots or money in-game unless you find them in loot crates (which are random drops).
#4 Use Leather Scrap to Craft Bandages
You can use leather scraps to craft bandages, which are useful for healing yourself and others. Bandages are also used to craft a medkit, which is useful for healing yourself and others. Medkits can be combined with more leather scraps to create backpacks, which are useful for carrying more items.
#5 Find a Good Place to Build a Base
The first thing you need to do is make sure it's easy to defend. You can't just build your house on top of the hill and expect everyone else who wants to come by and raid your home be deterred by your presence alone. If you want any chance of keeping your stuff safe, you're going to have to put some effort into making sure nobody will be able to get inside unless they've got a battering ram or something like that.
The next thing you should consider is resources! A good base should have access to valuable resources nearby (and hopefully not so close that other players will notice them). Accessible water can help keep thirst at bay while using nearby trees for wood keeps hunger away during long stretches without supplies from home.
Also, consider how easily accessible these resources are when choosing where to build: make sure they're within walking distance if possible!
#6 Plan Ahead and Practice Pitching Tents
Whether you're an avid camper or a newbie just starting to pitch tents, it is always good to practice before it's time to use your tent in the field. This will ensure that you can easily pitch a tent at a moment's notice when necessary, as well as teach you what needs doing and how long it will take. There are many ways to get your tent up quickly:
- Use stakes for support (and hammer them into the ground with a mallet). This method works best when there's no wind or rain expected.
- Practice pitching the tent from inside outwards by first attaching all poles together and then rolling them up until they meet at the top of your pack where they will be stored away until next time!
- The fastest way I know how do this is by having one person hold up their pole while another person attaches theirs next door (make sure everyone knows which direction yours needs facing!). Once both are attached together using some rope loops (or whatever else materials may be available), pull down firmly - voila!
#7 Get Familiar with the Rust Wiki
The Rust Wiki is a great resource for learning more about Rust. It’s also a good place to start learning how to get started with Rust, and it’s got a lot of tips and tricks for survival in Rust. If you want to know how to build in Rust, then the wiki will be your friend!
#8 Easy Ways to Gather Materials
There are many tools you can use to harvest resources in Rust.
A stone pickaxe, for example, is the most basic tool and will allow you to mine rocks with ease so that you can gather stone from them.
Another useful starting tool is a stone hatchet, which allows players to chop down trees and gather wood from them.
If you end up finding other types of ore or metal while playing Rust, then it's good to have a few stones as well so that you can craft your own tools (such as axes) later on down the road.
