An early CGI version of A Minecraft Movie has been uploaded online, amusing and confusing viewers.
One such clip is Jack Black as Steve dancing with blocky pandas and cows in the part, 'Steve's World.' Another shows Steve and Jason Momoa's character Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison plummeting to the sky and into water. Without polished visual effects these scenes have been likened to 2000s video game graphics.
The reactions to these leaks on social media were hilarious. There are comments such as ‘this looks like a fever dream’ and ‘I love how chaotic it is.’ Of course, some viewers even prefer this raw version of the video and find the humor in their unrefined take.
However, there is no damage to A Minecraft Movie despite the leak. The $301 million global box office opening of the film suggests it had great support and interest from the viewers.
The leaked clips have now sparked conversations about filmmaking and the large part played by post-production when it comes to releasing that final film. The origins of the leak remain unknown, but it adds to the headache’s studios have in protecting their content during production.
