Necesse Raiders – The Vicious Night Time Attackers
Don't think for a moment that you are safe after building your settlement in Necesse. Just when it feels like you're under control, the game will throw a curveball by pitting you against one of the most formidable enemies the game has to offer - The Raiders.
They are not ordinary. They are downright brutal, unpredictable, and show no mercy. They attack when you least of them. So let’s break down the chaos and show you how to defend your territory against their formidable offensives.
What Are Necesse Raiders?
If you are new to Necesse, you may be wondering what Raiders are. Well, they are aggressive enemies that attack your settlements in groups of different sizes during "Raid Event."
Necesse Raiders don’t just appear any time. In fact, they use a strategic approach and attack your camps at night. They are always coming for your settlers. Their unpredictable attacks are what makes them dangerous. They just come out of nowhere.
Moreover, their varying strength is based on several factors in the game.
What Affects Their Power?
You might have noticed that the Necesse Raiders get stronger the more you play.
The Raiders' gear gets upgraded as you progress in Elder's quest. Think of it as leveling up right along with you. This means that their stats will be equal to that of your settlers. Therefore, if you get stronger, so do they.
Remember, the damage you take during each raid will be carried, so the next group of Raiders will launch an even stronger offensive on your camp if you have just survived an attack. However, their attacks would be weak if they prevailed in their mission of wiping your settlers out.
The raid damage multiplier can range between 50% (if you keep failing to defend your territory) and up to 125% (if you manage to inflict a decent amount of damage).
When Do They Attack?
Raiders don't attack your settlement every time, but when they do, the chances of you getting overwhelmed by these offensives are pretty high.
These attacks either take place occasionally after sunset or when your settlement has at least three settlers. So, watch out for the clock because things will get out of hand when the sun sets.
The raiders will come from a certain direction and prepare to attack. You can check out the island maps to get a heads-up about where they’re coming from. This way, you can plan a strategic strategy so you can plan your defense.
However, things can go horribly wrong because the attack frequency varies from time to time.
The initial attacks happen about every 1.5 to 2.5 hours. But, the more raids you survive, the longer the cooldown becomes (it may take up to five hours). The boss quests get reduced this cooldown after a certain settlement is wiped out. It could bring it back down to the baseline of 2.5 hours.
What Makes Them Dangerous
As mentioned before, the raiders attack your settlements in groups, and each wave is different in number. Their strength depends on the number of people in your camp. A large number of raiders (sometimes a lot more) will invade your settlement at the same time if your territory has more settlers.
For example, if there are 15 settlers, then you could be up against 53 of them. This could be daunting unless you're prepared for it.
These raiders are relentless in nature. They make their way toward the center of your settlement and begin raiding the houses where settlers live.
Here’s where the danger is. The settlers stay indoors at night, and the raids take them by surprise. When they step out to fight, they take a lot of damage. The residents retreat to their rooms to heal when they get hurt.
The attackers head straight towards the nearest occupied room, break down the door, and start attacking; the settler doesn't have anyone to distract the raiders. The raiders keep making their way towards the center of the settlement even after a settler gets killed in the attack, taking out anyone in their path.
The raiders will try to kill everyone that comes in their way before retreating.
How to Defend Against Raiders?
You may be wondering how to fight back against the Necesse Raiders. Here are a few strategies that will help you fend off your settlement with these nighttime invaders.
You could start by building a defense. Surrounding your area with walls can be helpful, but it won't stop them entirely because the invaders will break the walls down if they can't find a way inside.
There's a better option. You can set up certain entrances that raiders would surely use to funnel inside. This way, you can focus your defenses.
You can set up traps against Necesse Raiders. They are a great way to make raiders pay for attacking your settlers. The "Kill Maze," a series of traps that slow and kill the raiders as they try to get through, is particularly helpful. You can also try using other traps to stop them from wiping out your territory.
You can lead from the front and command your settlers. Instead of being the prey, become the hunter. This can be done by opening the settlement interface (C by default), clicking on "Command," and choosing settlers to follow you. This is effective in forming groups and focusing on their efforts.
Apart from taking the reins, you can arm your settlers by giving them weapons and gear to defend themselves and deal extra damage. This is important if you come under attack by high-level raiders.
Are There Any Rewards?
You'll be rewarded with random amounts of coins, along with weapons or armor, that you can arm your own settlers with. On the other hand, if a settler is lost then there's no way they will return.
But don't feel bad because you're likely to come across the same type of settler shortly afterward. You can recruit them to fill the gap.
Raiders, on the other hand, will leave when they have caused enough chaos. A message will then pop up, signaling that the raiders are fleeing to the edge of the zone. They will leave even when they are in battle. Talk about being punctual.
