Hollow Knight Silksong Great Taste of Pharloom Quest Guide
As the main character of Hollow Knight, the ball is in your court. You'll thrash down halls of the Citadel, explore the Choral Chambers, meet new NPCs, and have a lot of fun. At a point, you'll encounter this massive, abandoned dining hall, which is home to the ever-loyal Mergwin. Old Mergwin is just trying to serve his master, and part of your task is to get familiar with him. Mergwin will request that you find ingredients for his master. This is where the Great Taste of Pharloom quest in Hollow Knight comes in.
The quest involves looking around the kingdom for specific ingredients, after which you receive sweet pale oil as a reward. This guide will take you through everything you need to know, from the process of acquiring these ingredients to the different locations one has to visit, and provide a quick solution to the challenges encountered along the road.
Requirements for Embarking on Such a Quest

Make Your Own game Server
Making your way to the top left of the Citadel requires completing several tasks. And for you to get there, it means that you've completed most of them. However, if something isn't working out, then you probably haven't done one of these:
- Finding Mosshome, Greymoor, Bellhart, Sands of Karak, and Sinner's Road
- Navigating the Sands of Karak and obtaining the clawline
- Completing the Berry picking quest for the Druid in Mosshome
- Obtaining the Faydown Cloak to complete the Sinner's Road journey
- Saving couriers by completing the My Missing Courier quest and the My Missing Brother quest Having done all of these, you're halfway to completing the Great Taste of Pharloom quest in Hollow Knight. You can now start looking for the following recipes:
Mossberry Stew
Finding the Mossberry Stew is the easiest of all. This shouldn't take much of your time. If you're wondering where to find Mossberry Stew in Hollow Knight, Mergwin will hint that it is a Druid recipe. Head to the Druid in Mosshome and request a drop of soup. There's a lady with access to these recipes there, and she will happily provide them for you. You can go back for more but time isn't on our side, so we must just continue.
Vintage Nectar
Now that you know how to partake in the Great Taste of Pharloom quest in Hollow Knight and must have acquired the Mossberry Stew recipe, navigating to anywhere near the Halfway House in Greymoor is the next task on the list. Here we're looking for some rather old glasses of battery acid, and there's only one guy with this recipe. As you plan to embark on this journey, put on your combat gear and don't ask why. Reach out to Creig and he will let you purchase the Vintage Nectar for 480 Rosaries. In the process, you may slash some rats and clear the path full of ants. Once done, grab the bottle and head out.
Courier's Rasher
This task is one hell of a bomb and a pain in the ass if you don't know your way around it. Finding Couriers in Bellhart is easy, delivering these items isn't. You are to acquire the meat recipes, and Mergwin wants them drippy, which means they expire in five minutes. These couriers will expire much faster if you take any damage during the delivery process. On top of that, you need to bring them all the way from Bellhart to Mergwin in the Citadel with no fast travel. The best routes for delivering these items will involve navigating to the bottom of Shellwood through four room transitions before heading up, Platforming through Blasted Steps, and taking the Spa through the Citadel to reach Mergwin with 3 hits to spare. Be sure to equip yourself with the Silkspeed Anklets and the Weavelight.
Crustnut

The Sands of Karak is where you find these crustnuts, but you're not going in and out like a businessman getting money from the bank. You either go in from the left or go up past the Thief's Den in the Blasted Steps. Find your way to the tall, vertical drop in the center of the entire area, head to the central room at the left, above Shakra's usual location, and below the path to Coral Tower. Bring a long sharp weapon crest along for those draining red spikes who'd like to attack you on the way. While you attack, avoid contact with these old alluring, pretty red spikes, grab that crusty nut, and get out immediately.
Pickled MuckMaggot
The most difficult task of all is finding Pickled MuckMaggot by heading to Sinner's Road to the right of where all the cages are on the map and using your wings to soar up to an unreachable height. Bring some tools like Sting Shards for crowd control and the Parry as your silk skill. You'll carry on tasks like fighting with the Disgraced Chef Lugoli, playing your Needolin to some butterflies, and battling with a very feisty woman. Slaying her will give you access to a nice Pickled MuckMaggot. Now that we've obtained this recipe alongside others in the list, we can finally travel back to the Citadel to meet with Mergwin and get our paper oil.
Getting an Upgrade

So that's it with the Great Taste of Pharloom quest in Hollow Knight. However, the job isn't done yet. As Mergwin gets the final ingredient, his master will emerge to devour his meal, and you'll notice that beautiful, delectable pale oil, be freed from its chassis. There's one more thing to do: head to Bellhart and grab 500 Rosaries to compensate for spending enough already, and go up to that second home up top. This third nail upgrade makes the final fight much easier and almost makes delivering the Rasher worth it.
