In order to gain access to The Sunken Sea Biome, you have to defeat the Glurch, Ghorm, and the Hive Mother. Their necessary pieces are used to activate the Core to do away with the wall in your path to this biome.
A crafted Boat is very helpful in early exploration since most of the biome is covered in water. You can also take with you several hundred Bridges to build paths over the water.
Major threats are the Bubble Crab, which inflicts the "Slippery" debuff, and the Tentacle, which throws projectiles from a distance and makes combat tactics and navigation a little bit harder.
Octarine can be found in The Sunken Sea Biome. Go on further journeys around the zone to gather this extremely precious resource.
