How to Build a Mushroom Farm
- Prepare the Farm Area
First of all, dig up an area of reasonable size and then construct walls around it. The mushrooms will need some time to grow, so make sure the space is sufficient for this process. Leave a gap of one tile to avoid the Mushroom Monsters entering your farm, and install a wooden door to seal off the area.- Gather Fungal Soil
Head to the Dirt Caves, and you'll find wild Mushrooms. The floor in these rooms will be covered in Fungal Soil, which is what you'll need for your Mushroom Farm. Continue digging up Fungal Soil until you have enough to fill that entire room you set up.- Set Up the Farm
Bring the Fungal Soil back to your base and place it down in your farm area. Place a torch in the centre of the room as soon as the floor becomes covered to give ample light. This will make the Mushrooms want to spawn.
Managing Mushroom Monsters
Now, when your Mushroom Farm is on, you will notice that Mushroom Monsters have begun spawning. The spawned monsters may slow down your farming and add hassle to your task. To minimise that:
Setting Spike Traps: Make some spike traps and place them in front of the door, possibly elsewhere in key positions inside the farm. Thus, you can deal with the invading Mushroom Monsters since all will be killed by the traps, dropping mushrooms for you to harvest.
Farm Surveillance: Make sure to check in on the farm frequently so that it doesn't halt, in addition to harvesting the mushrooms grown. The traps will kill the Mushroom Monsters; you only need to collect their meat.
This setup will give you a self-sufficient mushroom farm, providing you with a steady stream of mushrooms after minimal intervention.
Frequently Asked Questions
Dig a big area, then wall it in. Leave space for a wooden door to keep out the Mushroom Monsters. Then, using some of your recently dug holes, grab some Fungal Soil from Dirt Caves and cover the farm area with it. Stick a torch in the middle and watch those mushrooms grow.
Fungal Soil is a type of soil found in the Dirt Caves. It's where wild mushrooms generally spawn. Dig up these tiles to collect the Fungal Soil needed for planting mushrooms on your farm.
Setting spike traps before the door and all over the farm area is always a good idea to avoid problems with Mushroom Monsters. These will kill the monsters, and then you can pick up the mushrooms they leave behind.
While generally speaking this farm is self-sufficient, it is still advised to periodically check the farm for grown mushrooms and the traps for proper functioning. This will help maintain a steady supply of mushrooms with minimal effort.
