Sins of the Father Walkthrough in Oblivion Remastered
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered side quests are often deeply personal stories that play out across several missions, and the Sins of the Father quest is arguably the best of them. What begins as a minor case of mistaken identity slowly unravels into a compelling family drama of redemption, betrayal, and inheritance. Unlike most solo side quests, Sins of the Father is one of three quests in the Chorrol Jemane family questline. You'll need to do Separated at Birth and Legacy Lost before this final quest is open. With it open, you'll get to make some difficult moral choices and earn one of Oblivion Remastered's greatest shields, if you play your cards correctly.
How To Initiate the Jemane Family Questline

Make Your Own game Server
You will have to finish two prerequisite quests, Legacy Lost and Separated at Birth, to gain access to Sins of the Father.
Step 1: Separated at Birth
Travel to Chorrol and enter the city through the Southern Gate. Head straight south and look for a large statue in the middle of the city. Head east and head towards The Grey Mare Inn, the first building on your right. Inside, you’ll meet Reynald Jemane, a friendly but slightly confused man dressed in green. Speak with him, and he’ll mention seeing a man who looks exactly like him in another city. This begins the Separated at Birth quest. Travel to Cheydinhal, entering from the Western Gate. On your left is the Newlands Inn. Go upstairs at night, and you’ll find a sleeping man dressed similarly to Reynald, Guilbert Jemane, his long-lost twin brother. Talk to him, tell him about Reynald, and return to Chorrol to reunite the two brothers at The Grey Mare. Their emotional reunion unlocks the next step: Legacy Lost.
Step 2: Legacy Lost
After he's brought the brothers together, Guilbert will speak to you about their family home, Weatherleah, that's been overrun with ogres. You can offer to assist them in retaking it to initiate Legacy Lost. The area will not be on your map until Guilbert drops the marker, so head to the place your quest marker points to in the southern part of Chorrol. When you get there, you will find three ogres chillin' at the destroyed farmstead. Kill them, then head back to The Grey Mare Inn. If you've already cleared the land, Guilbert will ask you to bring him and Reynald to their family estate. When you do so safely, the quest is complete, and the brothers finally come into their family estate. Wait 48 game hours (or finish other quests) after completing Legacy Lost before the next part, Sins of the Father, is initiated.
How To Start Sins Of The Father In Oblivion Remastered

To begin Sins of the Father, return to Chorrol two real game days after the conclusion of Legacy Lost. At around 9 AM, return to the city square in front of the statue. West of the square, near the Oak and Crosier Inn, an NPC Fathis Ules will greet you on auto. Fathis tells you that Jemane brothers' father used to steal something valuable from him once, Chorrol's Honorblade. He will request you to help him get it back, marking a dungeon south of Chorrol on your map. Accept his request to start the Sins of the Father quest.
Finding the Dungeon & Stealing the Honorblade
Go into the ruin or cave where Fathis is indicating with your quest arrow. There are a few ogres
inside who will be delighted to greet you, so prepare your finest weapons, potions, and healing
magic. The final chamber contains the final ogre, and he has the Honorblade of Chorrol
equipped, a finely crafted magical sword that was once possessed by Chorrol's noble houses.
Loot the Sword from the dead ogre, then exit the dungeon and head back to Chorrol. When you
get back, you'll have a major moral choice that will decide your final reward.
Choice 1: Reward the Sword to Fathis Ules
If you return the Honorblade to Fathis Ules, he rewards you with 1,500 gold as a thank you. This
closes off the much more valuable part at a later stage in the questline, though.
This option is for players who need cash quickly, but also the "less honorable" one, since Fathis
isn't being honest about the sword's past.
Choice 2: Return the Honorblade to Chorrol Castle
The more ethical choice is to give the sword back to its original owners. Head to Chorrol Castle and speak to Wavrick, who is one of the stewards of the castle. He'll be happy to have the Honorblade returned to him and will repay you with the Escutcheon of Chorrol, one of the best shields in Oblivion Remastered. The Escutcheon of Chorrol boasts excellent defensive stats and a high enchantment value. Even if you’re not a shield user, it’s worth over 4,000 gold, making it far more valuable than Fathis’s bribe.
Finishing the Quest

Once you’ve made your decision, return to The Grey Mare Inn and speak with the Jemane brothers one final time. If you've left the sword with Fathis, Reynald won't believe your story, and Guilbert will become disillusioned. But, if you've brought the sword back to the castle, Guilbert will accept your story of his father's transgression and reward you with four Grand Soul Gems. And that concludes the Sins of the Father quest, a nice wrap-up to one of Oblivion's seamier side stories of family, honor, and forgiveness. Even for a completionist, Sins of the Father pays off big early in the game and shows off the character-driven storytelling that fans adore about Oblivion Remastered. It's a questline with combat, exploration, and moral choice all in balance with each other, and the Escutcheon of Chorrol is still one of the most iconic pieces of gear in the game.
